I was never one to have a lot of break outs or blemishes on my face. But I still felt insecure as a teen. I'm sure, like most of you out there. Those years are full of self doubt and low self-esteem for most girls. I didn't have many guys who wanted to hold a conversation let alone like me.
I was skinny and awkward with eczema on my arms and neck. That was just the most embarrassing. Skin problems can make you do some crazy things. Like wear a jacket to school every day no matter the weather just to hide what I was too embarrassed for anybody to see.
And when someone mentioned it I wanted to cry or chop off my arms and neck. I was horrified that someone would notice and make fun of me. Of course it happened. It happened many times. Sometimes I would lie and say I was burned in a fire. If I was close to that person I would tell the truth but still feel bad about them knowing my ugly secret.
But I was able to cover it.
So I felt guilty that I was so embarrassed about a condition that I could cover when people who have acne on their faces cannot cover it. Unless they use makeup.
To me makeup was such a confidence boost. I felt like I could rule the word with a little eyeshadow. I had no idea what I was doing (I'm still not great). I would use just eyeshadow. No mascara. No eyeliner. Just one eyeshadow color on the entire eye. Lid, crease and brow bone. One color!
But I felt good about it. It made me feel better.
So I couldn't imagine what this would do for a person with acne or scars or something more serious. Thinking you are unattractive can cause some true damage to the self-esteem. As women we want to feel wanted and pretty. Makeup really does help that.
Now that I'm older I still love makeup. I don't wear it everyday but when I do I feel the difference in my energy and joy. I'm lighter on my feet. I'm more fun with my family.
How we see ourselves in the mirror can change how we see ourselves in the greater scheme of things.
Since I was a teen and first started wearing eyeshadow I knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry.
To help women feel better about themselves through skin care and makeup.
To help women look in the mirror and love what they see.
To help women grow their confidence.
To help women.
No I'm not one of those women who can't leave the house without doing their makeup. Like I said I don't even wear makeup everyday. But I am one of those women who thinks that we should take better care of ourselves. Because if I don't care for myself how will everyone else know how to take care of me?
Often, we put ourselves last and that can make you feel great but taking the time to care for you will make you feel better. In a totally different way. Your face is what you present to the masses. Egyptians felt like your face is also what you present to God. And they wore makeup everyday, even the men.
I'm not here to be an advocate for makeup because I believe great skin care is more important then covering what you don't want people to see. Skin care can be a great way to get rid of conditions that make you feel insecure. A good skin care regimen can get rid of acne, scars, dark circles, and much more.
Some say that beauty is only skin deep. In some ways I agree. But the skin is the biggest organ in the human body. Why would you leave it to care for itself. In most cases that just does not work. There are ways to make normal skin glow, make oily skin normal, tighten loose skin and moisturize dry skin.
All of this leaving you feeling at your best.
