Preschool Books for October

We love books in this family. I will also take any reason to grow our library. Here are some of our books we are enjoying for October.

Secrets of the Apple Tree I love Usborne Books & More's Shine A Light series. They take actual factual information and make it fun by adding secrets and a flashlight. We are reading about apple trees to bring in the fall season.

From Seed to Pumpkin This beautifully illustrated book teaches young children the life cycle of a pumpkin from seed to pumpkin. It uses language that even preschoolers can understand.

13 nights of Halloween This book is one of my favorites. It's read or sang to the melody of 12 Days of Christmas but with a spooky Halloween twist.

Peek Inside a Tree This is another Usborne Book that is both interactive and educational. The Peek Inside a Tree book gives facts about a tree, what animals may live in that tree and what the tree needs to grow. Did I mention its a lift-the-flaps book?

Seasons This books takes you on a nature walk through the four seaaons. It talks about what animals do and eat during each season. As well as what happens to trees and other planta and vegetation.

Berenstain Bears Big Book of Science and Nature This is a big book. Especially for this age group but I think this book should be in every preschool homeschool. It goes through the seasons and weather and holidays. As well as a few science topics in easy to understand rhymes throughout the whole book.

Lift the Flap Weather and Seasons Usborne takes another spot on the list. They are just known for having fun and factual books on so many subjects for homeschoolers.

Max & Ruby Happy Halloween This cute little story takes us through Max and Ruby getting ready to go trick or treating and 'tis the season for scaring big sisters.

Jonathon James and the Whatif Monster What if negativity took over your mind? It could certainly stop you from living your life to the fullest, couldn't it? This cute story with a moral is perfect for preschoolers who may be in that stage where they start worrying about being judged by other people.

Ten Apples Up On Top I love a counting/math story. These friends compete on who can hold the most apples on their heads. Its cute and shows an example of friendly competition. Plus we get to keep counting over and over and on each page we are adding more apples.

The Pumpkin Book This book explains the life cycle of a pumpkin too. I love having multiple books giving factual information because it ends up sticking with my kids for a longer time than reading them one book on the same subject.

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves I loved the original There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly when i was a kid. I would read it out loud to see how fast I could say it. So when I saw this I had to have it. Mostly for the kid in me. But turns out my boys get a kick out of me reading it as fast as I can too!

Why Do Leaves Change Color? The title of this book explains itself. This book takes us through the science of what happens to leaves and why they change color during Fall. I think its really cool to have even though it gets really science-y for preschoolers. I like to introduce them to science young.

Awesome Autumn This is a fun book filled with more facts about the season of autumn and some fun activities to do wth your kiddos.
